Working from home sounds like a dream to some people especially if you are at work and don’t enjoy what you do. I have been working from home now for over 15 years and my routine has changed over the years and I want to share with you my story on how I work from home.
My Tasks for Today – You Can Take A Quick Look
Firstly, my dog, Sammy is sat next to me just having a nap whilst I write this blog. Lucky for some!! My tasks today are to draft this post, I have some 30 emails in the my inbox unread (not too bad), brainstorm my next two blogs that can add value to you, then pick up daughter up from school, help her with her homework, take Sammy out for his daily walk and then relax in the evening with my wife.
My Weekly Routine
At the start of each week I set myself goals I want to accomplish in terms of my investments, my blog, my properties and anything on a personal nature such as – book a film to watch over the weekend in the cinema or go out with the family somewhere to eat. This high level to do list gets me focused on what I need to aim for.
When I first started, I was just coming in the office (at home which only took a minute) then just read and reply to emails and see how the day panned out. This I found meant although I was busy, I was not really achieving many goals. The to do list is a must to be honest. I now feel good at the end of the week once I have met most or all of my goals and this is something I urge you to do on a week to week basis.
A Typical Morning
7:30-7:45: Breakfast with the family while all the hustle and bustle is going on to get the kids ready for school (its getting easer as they are getting older!!)
7:45-8:30: I meditate. This is something that I have done for many years and I see this as ME TIME.
8:30-9:00: I am at my desk and working through emails, twitter or facebook
9:00-12:00: I spend time on my blog, editing posts, connecting with people and writing posts
A Typical Afternoon
2:00-3:30: I will go through any emails or make phone calls to network or just catch up with friends and family
3:30-4:30: I will pick up youngest daughter from school
4:30-5:30: I will tend to work from the mobile attending to any emails or phone calls. I aim to wrap up my day between this time.
