Proofreaders are in high demand, particularly for online businesses.

How to make money as a proofreader – I will show you the benefits of a proofreader, how much you can earn and where to get started.

And because you can proofread from practically any location, it’s a great option for making money from home. In many cases, proofreaders can even set their own hours and work at their own pace.

Benefits of Proofreading to You and Your Clients

By eliminating errors you’ll feel more confident when writing.
Proofreaders can help to understand how to eliminate your errors so the client can relax and focus their attention on things that really matter to them, the business. Misspellings and poor grammar are a cardinal sin in business. Clients want to develop a reputation for their product or brand and so need proofreaders.

1.Correct grammar, punctuation and spelling are essential for creating great content.
As humans, we all make mistakes, which is why a second and third set of eyes on each record is so important for eliminating errors that can make content writing look untrustworthy. It’s the editor’s and proofreader’s job to make sure every last detail makes you and your products look good.

2.To create more time for People to run their business.
Businesses need to focus on more time running their business? By taking on proofreading will take away any unnecessary time in tasks that can be sent out to other people like yourself.

3.You can work you own hours each month.
You can work from home, from anywhere in the world and just from a laptop – what a dream.  The amount of work can depend on you and so the hours can be whatever you want.  Great stuff!!!

4.Ensure brand consistency – to build trust and confidence in clients products.
Imagine you’re reading a novel. You’re emotionally engaged with the characters and story line. Suddenly, the protagonist does something out of character. The action just doesn’t fit and does not make sense. The inconsistency jerks you out of your mental and emotional connection with the story. You may even start to question the validity of the story. Proofreaders can bring in the consistency in written materials.

5.To help save money.
Do you know the cost of businesses spending time reading and re-reading their own work? It’s a lot more than you might think.

There are also professional proofreaders out there and have a look at their benefits below:

6.To save clients from embarrassment.
There’s nothing more embarrassing than one customers noticing an error and then publicising it on social media. Proofreaders can help to ‘get it RIGHT first time’.

7.Double check for accuracy – to decrease product return rates.
The accuracy of product information is paramount to any business. Getting the facts wrong leads to angry customers and higher product return rates. Accuracy is hands down the most important reason to have proofreaders double checking the facts.

How To Make Money As A Proofreader – How Much Do They Earn

There is a site called Kibin where you can register to become a proofreader.  They expect proofreaders to go through and comple, at a minimum, 1,500 words per hour.

Now you don’t have to edit at that speed; it’s not a requirement.

Kibin has 10 editing levels. These are not based on your skill level, but rather a combination of how committed you’ve been to the Kibin platform (total words edited) and how well you’ve performed (customer feedback).

Each level earns a percentage of what Kibin charges the client. The minimum revenue share is set at 30.50% and works its way up in 0.50% increments to a flat 35.0% for level 10.

Let’s start off looking at a new Kibin editor, or a level 1 editor. And let’s pretend this editor received a 1,500 word job with a 3-hour deadline. This editor will earn $22.65 for this job regardless of how long it takes her to complete it.

But on average, editors tend to earn between $15 and $25 per hour. The large range is due to the tier levels and speed of editing. Some of the top editors are even able to earn $30 per hour on a consistent basis.
